Sensex, Nifty flat

The benchmark indices opened flat with a positive bias on Tuesday, with shares of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group companies moving higher. The S&P BSE Sensex gained over 72 points to trade at 38,167. The shares of Mindtree slipped 1 per cent in the early trade after Larsen & Toubro bought a 20.32 per cent stake in the IT services company for Rs 3,269 crore. The Nifty50, on the other hand, is trading over 37 points higher at 11,499 levels. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was trading 45 points higher at 15,186, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index was ruling at 14,853, up 35 points, or 0.24 per cent. Asian shares treaded water on Tuesday ahead of a U.S. Federal Reserve policy meeting, hovering near six-month highs. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was virtually flat, just a hair away from the highest level since September 21. Japan’s Nikkei average dropped 0.5 per cent, while Australian stocks eased 0.1 per cent. In the commodity market, oil prices hovered just below 2019 highs early on Tuesday, supported by ongoing supply cuts led by producer club OPEC.
