Sensex opens higher; Nifty tops 11,600

The indices opened higher on Tuesday with the S&P BSE Sensex trading over 100 points higher and the Nifty scaling the 11,600 level. At 9:22 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex was trading at 38,806, up 161 points, with YES Bank, Hero MotoCorp, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries and Sun Pharma among the top gainers. The broader Nifty50 was ruling at 11,637, up 42 points, or 0.37 per cent. Among sectoral indices, Nifty Realty and Nifty Pharma made considerable gains, zooming 1.16 per cent and 1.02 per cent, respectively. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was trading almost 60 points higher at 15,206, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index was ruling at 14,860, up 56 points, or 0.38 per cent. Asian shares were little changed on Tuesday, with concerns China may slow the pace of policy easing curbing the market’s enthusiasm. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was almost flat, while Japan’s Nikkei average eased 0.2 per cent. The US stocks ended almost flat during the overnight trade on Monday ahead of Q4 results by major companies including Amazon, Boeing and Facebook. The S&P500 ended 2.4 points or 0.1 per cent higher at 2,908. Dow Jones ended 48 points or 0.18 percent lower at 26,511 and Nasdaq inched 17 points or 0.22 per cent up at 8,015.
