Sensex at new high, zooms over 600 pts up, Nifty hits 11,900

The stock market opened on a strong note on Thursday with both the benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty opening at record highs as the early trend showed the incumbent NDA (National Democratic Alliance) leading in the counting of votes for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, that started 8:00 am today. The S&P BSE Sensex was trading over 500 points or 1 per cent higher at 39,559 while the Nifty50 index was ruling at 11,882.40, up 145 points or 1.23 per cent. The index breached the crucial 11,900 level for the first time ever in the opening deals. Asian shares were trading in the red in the early trade on Thursday with MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan easing 0.01 per cent. On Wall Street, the US stocks ended lower in the overnight trade. In commodities, oil prices dropped on Thursday. Brent crude futures were at $70.62 per barrel at 6:30 am, down 0.5 per cent, from their last close.
