Sensex, Nifty open higher

Benchmark indices opened Tuesday's session higher, lifted by gains in tech stocks. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex rose 55 points, or 0.14 per cent, to 39,840, with HCL Tech, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, TCS, and Tata Steel being among the top gainers. The broader Nifty50 index added a marginal 6 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 11,928. The Nifty sectoral indices were trading mixed, with Nifty Metal and Nifty IT up over 0.3 per cent, while Nifty Pharma and Nifty Realty indices took the deepest cuts, down over 0.8 per cent. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index jumped 13 points, or 0.09 per cent, to 14,936, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index slipped 12 points, or 0.08 per cent, to 14,573.
