Indices open higher

Benchmark indices opened Tuesday's session on a positive note, lifted by gains in Infosys and bank stocks. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex rose 73 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 39,034, with IndusInd Bank, Powergrid, Vedanta, HCL Tech, and Infosys leadiing the list of gainers. The broader Nifty50 index climbed 21 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 11,693. All the Nifty sectoral indices except three were trading in the green, with Nifty Private Bank index rising the highest 0.4 per cent, followed by Nifty IT index, up 0.26 per cent. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was up 9 points, or 0.06 per cent, to 14,540, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index was trading flat at 14,174.
