Sensex up 100 pts, Nifty tops 12K

Markets opened higher on Thursday, reacting positively to the Rs 25,000 crore booster dose to the real estate sector announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex was trading higher at 40,615 level. IndusInd Bank and HDFC, up between 1.5 tand 2 per cent, were the top gainers on the index. On the downside, Tata Steel was down 1.2 per cent. On the NSE, the Nifty50 was trading at 12,005-mark. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved setting up of an alternative investment fund (AIF) to revive around 1,600 stalled housing projects across top cities in the country.  Projects declared as non-performing assets and those which are undergoing insolvency at the National Company Law Tribunal are to be considered for financing. Sectorally, Nifty Realty index was the top performer, up nealry 3 per cent in the early trade. All the constituents on the Realty index were trading in the green. On the contrary, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Auto indices slipped during the morning trade. In the broader market, both, the S&P BSE mid and small cap indices were outperforming the headline index, up 0.65 per cent each.
