Sensex up 100 pts, Nifty tops 11,850

The Indian benchmark indices were trading higher on Tuesday, lifted by buying in FMCG and metal counters, after massive sell-off in the previous session. The S&P BSE Sensex gained 115 points, or 0.28 per cent, to 40,480 levels. Hindustan Unilever (up 2%) gained the most. ONGC, Tata Steel, and Asian Paints (all up over 1%) were the other top gainers. On the other hand, HDFC Bank slipped 1 per cent. The broader Nifty50 index was hovering around 11,870 levels, up 41 points, or 0.35 per cent. All the Nifty sectoral indices traded in the green. Nifty Metal, Nifty FMCG, and Nifty Realty indexes were up over a per cent each. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap surged 100 points, or 0.65 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap was up 86 points, or 0.6 per cent.
