Sensex rises 250 points as indices regain momentum

The Indian markets were trading half a per cent higher, lifted by financials and metal stocks, in Friday's volatile session. Among headline indices, the S&P BSE Sensex hovered around 39,982 levels, up 250 points. Earlier in the day, the index had risen as high as 40,126. The Nifty50 index, meanwhile, topped the 11,750-mark. IndusInd Bank and Infosys (up 2% each) were the top Sensex gainers, followed by Tata Steel and HDFC Bank (both up 1%). Meanwhile, HCL Tech slipped over 4 per cent after the announcement of its September quarter results. Mindtree also tumbled 8 per cent post declaring its quarterly results. The Nifty sectoral indices were trading mixed, with Nifty IT index, down 1 per cent, leading the list of losers. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were both up half a per cent, each.
