Sensex opens 300 pts up, Nifty near 12k

Benchmark indices tracked their Asian peers to open Monday's session on a higher note, lifted by tech and bank stocks. The S&P BSE Sensex rose 290 points to 38,896, with YES Bank, PowerGrid, TCS, IndusInd Bank, and Vedanta among the top gainers. The Nifty50 surpassed the 11,950-mark to hover around 11,955, up 85 points, or 0.7 per cent. All the Nifty sectoral indices were trading in the green, led by Nifty Realty and Nifty IT indices, both up over 1 per cent each. In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap was up 103 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 15,010, while the S&P BSE SmallCap climbed 61 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 14,718.
